At Kokopu School, we have a strong focus on Tuakana-Teina—older students working, playing, and interacting with younger students.

As part of this focus, we have mixed-age House Groups where students connect through a variety of fun and competitive activities throughout the year. These include summer sports, winter sports, the school quiz, and more. Points are awarded during most activities, as well as through our "Caught Being Good" system and attendance focus. The winning house receives the Hibbert Shield at the end of the year.

Each house is named after a native bird and paired with a color that students are encouraged to wear on house days:

• Kea: Green

• Kererū: Purple

• Morepork: Black

• Pūkeko: Red

• Tūī: Blue
